Nautilus is pleased to announce that Mr. Nick Buhbe has joined our California
staff. Nick's experience with multi-disciplinary projects includes studies
related to sediment quality, estuarine ecology, water quality, and marine
biology.
As a senior project manager, his capabilities will both compliment Nautilus'
existing areas of expertise and provide additional perspective on future
projects.
The Nanaimo estuary is the largest estuary on Vancouver Island. This project
involves evaluating historical sediment quality and biological data to identify
suitable monitoring indicators for the estuary. Multiple industries are located
along the shoreline of the estuary, and First Nations and community
stakeholders share concerns over adverse impacts to the estuary from these
industrial activities. The program focus is on biological indicators, such as
benthic macroinvertebrates and starry flounder, with supporting sediment
quality analysis, at five sampling stations. The monitoring data will allow for
identification of environmental trends over time.
Nautilus Environmental (US) ranks 19th on San Diego Business Journal's list of
the Top 25 Environmental Consultants released February 11, 2008. Nautilus,
formed in 2004, continues to move up the Journal's annual list having
previously ranked #25 as of January 2006 and #22 as of January 2007. Current
rankings are based on the number of San Diego County-based environmental
employees as of January 1, 2008.
We're currently evaluating our practices in both the office and lab at all
three operations to try and minimize our footprint. Changes we're implementing
in our Burnaby office include using 100% recycled paper products,
sustainably-sourced office products, and use of environmentally friendly
cleaners and a vermicomposter in our staff kitchen. Other goals are to
encourage use of web-conferencing to minimize unnecessary travel and to reduce
the amount of hard copy material we print in our office.
Having outgrown our current office and laboratory space, Nautilus will be
adding 2150 square feet on April 1, 2008 to accommodate expansion, particularly
in our consulting practice, within walking distance of our current San Diego
facility.
